MEET JAN MONAHAZIAN FROM DEUTSCHE JAZZ UNION AND JAZZ PILOTS
OPEN FOR ALL NO NEED TO RSVP! JOIN IN!
In 2025, the Jazzpilots of German Jazzunion and Jan Monazahian successfully held a six months workshop series about music mediation and forms of musical community building - the Jazzpilot.Campus. Participants learned about planning and organizing their own mediation project, how to apply for funding, how to establish personal and communal value, and of course, how to create engaging projects.
During this time, 15 professional musicians were closely accompanied on their journey to an own mediation format. From innovative teaching-techniques to mother-baby-choirs and all female/non-binary bigband, many different projects evolved.
In this lunch-talk, Jan Monazahian will talk about this unique format and we will discuss the possibility of bringing it to Sweden.
Jan Monazahian is a musician, music-teacher and jazz-mediator. After finishing a masters program in visual anthropology at University of Göttingen, he decided to study jazz-flute and pedagogics at Hochschule Osnabrück. During this time, he did research on topics like jazzpedagogy in Germany and improvisation in daily life.
Today, he works as a freelance musician and music-teacher in Minden (Germany) and is doing several nationwide jazz projects for German Jazzunion’s „Jazzpilots“. For his work with „Jazzpilots“ he received the German Jazzprize 2025 in the category „Music Mediation“.
