ANNA-KARIN

Hi Anna-Karin!

How would you describe your music in one sentence?

Passionated hardangerfiddle playing, folkmusic with a resonance from the Norwegian mountains.

What are you focusing most on in your music career at the moment?

I'm recording and releasing the solo album "Gränsland" next year, so I am preparing a lot for that. I'also recently starten the duo ulvAkarin together with the cittern player Jens Ulvsand.

What are your biggest sources of inspiration right now?

The colors and light of the fall. It's so beautiful in Malmö right now. I take a lot walks in parks where I find a lot of inspiration and calm.

If you could dream big, what do you see in your future?

Freelancing with bigger groups, playing on bigger stages and composing a lot of music. Collaborations with other art forms and musicians from other countries. I would really like to work more with dancers. I am going to Norway in the fall 2023 so I hope I'll make contacts there with musicians that I'll continue working with. I would ofcourse also like to by another hardangerfiddle! And go to Kappleik - a hardangerfiddle competition in Norway. And I would really like to play the fiddle and sing in a pop/funk/soul-band.

What in your life has influenced you the most? And has that made an impact on your music in any way?

When I write music I get my influences from stuff happening in my everyday life and the people around me. I often feel a need to express myself when big or small stuff happens in life. I also get a lot of influences from other hardangerfiddle players and musicians from other genres.

When would you be available for international concert bookings?

Spring 2023.

Do you have any other artistic projects or ways of expression, fun hobbies etc that we should know about, the quirkier the better! Tell us!

I used to play the nyckelharpa, that's how I got interested in sympathetic strings and resonance-stuff.

I make really tastey popcorn, and I have very fast reflexed. I'm wearing something purple almost all the time. I can't listen to music without singing a second voice, wich some people find really annoying.. I used to play drums in a rock band.

Newcomer of the year
Maine Coon Trio: Kärv en (Egen utgivning)

"Named after the North American forest cat, this trio – with Robin Johansson on soprano sax and bass clarinet, Anna-Karin Andersson on violins and Søren Vinther Røgen on guitar – sneaks onto the stage. Atmospheric and gently swinging folk music that with simple means creates urgent traditional music of the time."
