Anna Rynefors

Anna Rynefors

Hi Anna Rynefors! How would you describe your music in one sentence?

Spellbinding Swedish folk music

What are you focusing most on in your music career at the moment?

The release of Anna Rynefors & Miriam Anderséns Forgotten Female Fiddlers Album ”Skånska spelkvinnor”, focusing on bringing the women of Skåne, Sweden their rightful place in music history. The release is set to december 2022 and we are so looking forward to meeting the audience in our upcoming pre-release concerts!

I´ve also just had a premiere of an original family show this September. ”Soup on a nail” is a one-woman show loosely based on the well-known folk tale. Medieval music combined with new Swedish folk music sets the stage for wordless storytelling that can travel the world.

What are your biggest sources of inspiration right now?

Meeting artists and audiences in different cultures and with different artistic expressions inspires creating together and bringing part of it into my solo work as well.

If you could dream big, what do you see in your future?

International tours for my two newest projects. I would love to tour more with Miriam Andersén bringing the women of the past with us on stage. I would also love to meet young audiences and tell them the story of ”Soup on a nail” without using words but telling the tale with my body language and the props using more of a circus expression to engage the audience.

What in your life has influenced you the most? And has that made an impact on your music in any way?

I´m from a musical family – playing early music with my grandmother from a young age has definitely had an impact. From my uncle I´ve inherited a love for Swedish folk music, an interest that developed so deeply I became a riksspelman – a master fiddler of the realm. The more I am in the world of Swedish folk music the more I feel connected to the world around me, before me and with myself. I now play traditional music and write pieces – passing them on to the next generation.

When would you be available for international concert bookings?

I´m a full-time freelance musician, in the process of booking 2023 and onwards to spring 2024 depending on the advancement of logistics.

Do you have any other artistic projects or ways of expression, fun hobbies etc that we should know about, the quirkier the better! Tell us!

I create music, but also script and the scenography - often in textile, but also using wood, paint and mixed media. I had a wonderful time making the scenography for the family show ”Soup on a nail” including a bizarre chefs hat, a large wooden tripod for the cauldron and a dead fish.

Kvinnolåt- ANNA & MIRIAM

The fiddler duo Anna & Miriam presents a project with female authors and music performers at the center. In Kvinnolåt, means “Women song”, we take our starting point from the Norse-Icelandic skald poetry of the Viking Age, where the female skalds form a unique group of named poets in European history. Via female poets - trouveresses - from medieval France, female saints and culture-bearing nuns, we land in Swedish folk music with female ballads, female fiddlers and tradition bearers.
