Susan Putnins is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist based in Malmö, Sweden. Her songwriting is rooted in the dramatic storytelling, emotional dynamics, and pop/rock/jazz of musical theatre and songstresses such as Kate Bush and Fiona Apple. Delving into themes of truth, identity, intimacy, and conflict, often filtered through imagery rooted in the sea and the stars, she uses songwriting as a way to explore questions of empathy–especially when it is uncomfortable. Her blended concert/workshop series The View from the Faultline combines music, storytelling, meditation, and journaling to help prepare us to talk to those whose ideas we find most abominable - because they’re often who we need to change the world. Susan has been a STPLN lab member (2025), a visiting artist to Sisters Hope (2024) and frontwoman for art rock trio Starlings (2021-2024) and indie pop band The Sinister Turns (2005-2012).
