By virtue of its rare instrument combination – viola and harpsichord on period instruments – the duo Stockmarr-Macedonio proposes a unique sound world. The Scania-Umbria based duo composed by Marie Stockmarr Becker (viola) and Ilaria Macedonio (harpsichord) was founded in 2013, when the two musicians studied early music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
The duo’s passion is to explore the original repertoire for viola and harpsichord, thus shedding light on this exquisite instrument combination and making rarely performed music accessible to a wider audience.
Since its inception, the duo has carried out many concert tours throughout Denmark, Italy, Sweden and beyond. They have performed in venues such as the Auditorium Marianum in Perugia, the Danish Institute in Rome (Acdan) and in Huis te Poort in Schiedam, Netherlands.
In 2021, the duo released its debut album with Johann Sebastian Bach’s three sonatas for viola (da gamba) and harpsichord BWV 1027-1029 on Channel Classics Records. Their next album with music by Bach’s sons and Johann Gottlieb Graun will be released during 2024.
The duo is active with concerts in the Öresund region, they have played in concerts series and venues such as Onsdagskoncerterne, Early Monday Copenhagen, Enghave kirke and S:t Thomas av Aquinos kyrka in Lund.
