Hellskotta is an exciting jazz constellation formed by five different musicians from Sweden with roots in jazz, afro, ethnic, classical music and hip hop. The meeting between these musicians with their different backgrounds results into an outgoing groove oriented jazz, where the focus is groove, rhythms and communication.
After five years and many gigs around Sweden and full houses on Bb flat and Birdland in Germany, we are proud to announce that Hellskotta release their second album, KULING On April 21, on PeriferiRecords. Hellskotta continues to explore the boundless musical landscape in KULING. Maggi Olin also visits the song "The Day After" with her expressive Fender Rhoades. Hellskotten debut album received a very positive reception of press and blogs. Reviews are available on Hellskottas website. The disc is distributed by Border Music & Phonophile.
Media's view of Hellskottas first CD:
"it´s incredible the flow that they create together."
- Anders stock Cratz, Lira November 2014
"What fits better into a band whose music is in hell swinging?"
- Sara Sagraeus, Folkbladet, December 2014
"The songs are stable danceable structures, while there is a movement and escape over them. The music changes often temperamental and there is a delicious dynamic between Abellis more meaty, earthy games and the explosivity of the guitar and sax."
- Alexander Agrell, Sydsvenskan
"The band themselves call their music groove jazz; perhaps it could be called African blues or ethno funk. Besides that the music's really grooving"
- Sven Bjerstedt, Ystad Allehanda
"The groove is sometimes ”Cruel” and the sound feels much larger than a quintet. I like this!"
- Tor-Björn Lyrhed, Corren
